5 flowers you can grow at home in a glass

Not all indoor plants require soil and bulky pots to grow and flower. For some, a lot of moisture is enough. And proper care will ensure a lush crown and abundant flowering.

Amaryllis

A beautifully flowering houseplant native to South Africa, it is popular with flower growers for its easy maintenance. It is a bulbous perennial with long, belt-like, smooth leaves arranged in two rows.

During the flowering period, amaryllis has several peduncles in the form of a hollow tube, on which up to 12 flowers bloom. Flowers outwardly resembling a lily or a gramophone, reach up to 10 cm in diameter.

The color of the petals can be different: white, red, pink. Currently, hybrid varieties have been bred with flowers in yellow, burgundy, orange and green.

Amaryllis can be grown not only in soil, but also in water. To do this, drainage is laid at the bottom of the container, for which pebbles, large beads or glass balls are used. The bulbs are placed so that they barely touch the surface of the water. During germination, the plant is kept in a cool room. After the roots appear, the vase is moved to a warm place. In order for the foliage to develop evenly, the container is regularly rotated around an imaginary axis.

Hyacinth

An unusually beautiful perennial plant that is grown at home and in the open field. The hyacinth has narrow leaves that grow above the bulb. The leaf plates have a rich emerald color.

The peduncle is smooth, thick, juicy. The flowers are small, simple or double, collected in spike-shaped inflorescences. Due to their large number, the inflorescence looks curly. The color of the corolla, depending on the variety, can be white, blue, lilac, lilac or violet.

This plant can be grown at home. For this, the container is filled with small pebbles and filled with a small amount of warm water. The vase must be stable, as the hyacinth inflorescences are very large and weigh a lot.

The bulbs are placed in water, making sure that the water only covers 1/3 of them. After the first leaves appear, the plant is kept indoors at a temperature not exceeding 18С. Such conditions prolong the flowering period of the plant.

For forcing a flower by a certain date, germination begins 1.5 - 2 months before the event. This is how long it takes for flowers to appear.

Cyperus

Tsiperus, or sity, is one of the most unpretentious aquatic plants of the Sedge family. Under natural conditions, cyperus grows in South Africa and Madagascar, preferring wetlands and the shores of water bodies.

Cyperus is a herbaceous perennial with long triangular shoots, at the top of which is a rosette of narrow spreading leaves. Cyperus flowers are small, cream or light green in color.

The plant can be grown in water by placing the shoots in a pot. There is never too much moisture for it, so the container can be placed in a deep tray filled with water.

Tulips

These are the most famous spring flowers. Persia is considered to be the birthplace of tulips. The plant has a straight or branched rounded stem up to one meter high.

The leaves are elongated, green or bluish in color. There is a waxy coating on the leaf surface.Only one flower blooms on each plant, which has 6 simple or double petals.

Inflorescences may outwardly resemble a lily, glass or star. Thanks to the efforts of breeders, flowers of the most varied colors are found.

For distillation at home, stones washed in running water are placed in a vase and water is poured so that it completely covers the ground. The bulbs are placed on top. Their bases should only touch the water. The vase is placed in a warm, bright place and the liquid level is monitored.

Eichornia

Eichornia, or water hyacinth, is a plant that grows along the banks of rivers, lakes and ditches in tropical regions of South America. Eichornia is simple and undemanding to care for. Its development requires a large amount of water.

The plant has a short stem. The leaves are round, dense, with a glossy surface. On the petioles and on the inner surface of the leaves there are swellings of various shapes and sizes, which act as floats that allow the eichornia to stay on the surface of the reservoir. The diameter of the flower reaches 30 cm. The color of the petals can be pale pink or lilac.

Eichornia can do without land. For its cultivation, use large wide glass containers or aquariums, which are placed in a warm, well-lit place. The plant does not tolerate drafts and cold air.

The environment where the water hyacinth grows must contain a sufficient amount of nutrients, therefore, before planting, a small amount of humus, compost or complex fertilizer for aquarium plants is added to the water.
